My recent obsession with filling a Nalgene bottle half-full and freezing it at an angle in the freezer has turned into an obsessive-compulsive behavior.
Point: An angle frozen Nalgene bottle, when removed from the tundra and filled with water, serves as an endless cold-water source. Ideal for hot summer months.
I have determined that the best angle for summer-persistent ice is to lay the ‘device’ against frozen fruit plastic bags and/or ziplock left-overs.
Attempting to lean the ‘device’ against frozen meat or cardboard-boxed items often results in the ‘device’ rolling to the left or right and ending in a sub-horizontal postion - which - prevents the ability to fill the 1/2 container with water. Instead, you have a portal blockage that requires a butter knife chopping maneuver that is loud enough to wake the kids and dangerous enough to mutter “jesus, I almost chopped my finger off”. No one likes the emergency room.
Ice, used right, is a wonderful thing.
