I predict that in 10 years, the artist Ryan Adams will have the societal impacts that Dylan had in the 60s.
Nirvana Nevermind was released 20yrs ago yesterday and changed the face of music, essentially commercializing punk. (quasi-punk)
AC/DC Back in Black was released 31 years ago in August and went on to sell more copies than all but 2 records. And has the distinction of the most AirPlay, jukebox and public performance than any other record. Essentially commercializing Acid Rock (hard rock).
Pink Floyd, Dark Side of the Moon was released 39 years ago in March. It stayed on the Top 100 Album Sales for well over 20 years. It commercialized long form rock songs (5+ minutes, the antithesis of The Beatles).
I performed a new song for my daughter in 2011, a few days back. Guitar, singing (messing up lyrics). Its not a good song, it’s just okay. She gave me her sucker.

“Don’t be a punk just because you think it’s cool. Punk is a mindset and you don’t have to dress or look like anything or conform to a name. You can be a blue collar and be punk. Purchasing the hair products, the clothes, and the music; that’s buying into society, which is exactly what punk is against. So know who you are, know the reason for the culture, and understand the meaning behind the word. It helps a lot when you just stop trying to be punk because “punk” is just a label. Be yourself but make sure you have a strong attitude that intimidates people so they know that you’re the shit and they don’t mess with you. Work out a lot because being punk isn’t easy; sometimes you get into fights, but win or lose who cares? As long as you are PROUD and defend yourself. Pride is the greatest thing you can have.”
As a fan of 70s/80s PUNK, I truly enjoy the insane real-life workday.
I praise the kind of day that takes my energy to intense intensity and my bodily existence well awake and well beyond the witching hour. I get so ramped on that work delivery and so intensely focused that i push/thrive on the task and forget all aspects of a normal mans ‘day’.
When these insanities are done, it’s usually 1am. Then i need to unwind. I have massive insomnia. So, I roll out the punk iPod tracks that perfectly match my intensity. Perfectly match my drive and self driven 5-hour energy (who needs liquid).
To my ultimate point here, I’ve been trying to embrace Nirvana - quasi punk. Seattle grunge was stolen from Minneapolis. Nirvana was packaged. It’s not punk, but it steals from it. Dave Groehl knows it, did a tune with Bob Mould. I don’t know. Nirvana, were they just a corporate band?
I have an idea, how about I settle in and just listen. Husker Du/Nirvana playlist shuffle.
Dr Feelgood, Motley Crew, Dr Feelgood

And that is all.
Tonight I gave myself the distinct privilege of listening to Michael Hedges, again.
I grant you this privilege as well. If you’re new, check out Live On A Double Planet. Light a fire.
A (literal) lifetime I’ve wanted to see this. This was my first 12yr old gtr solo (note for note), learned the entire Wall front to back, D-G, some Am in there. My second favorite band ever.
And yes, Red is coming out tonight. Grab that yellow pick…
I should call Witter.
One of my top recommendations, ideal for food preparation sessions, Robert Plant and Allison Krause, Raising Sand. Can’t go wrong.
I made this 16-bar thing using Garage Band on my iPad. Plucking and strumming virtual strings. Twas an interesting experience.
The best Dave Mathews song is that one that opens with the bass, ‘da doop doop da da doop do, da doop doop datta do do’. It also has the words, ‘Lovely Lady…’
Name that tune.
Henry Parsons Died, WSP.
It is now the last 9 months, after 25 years, and then WSP is done.
Somebody is going to a TON of shows this summer.
“everybody knows his name…”
